Biography:

I bring nearly 30 years of diverse experience in the mental health sector, distinguishing myself as an Associate Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHCA) with a Master of Science in Education from Drake University. Additionally, I hold Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Buena Vista University.

My professional journey spans various treatment settings, encompassing expertise in juvenile justice systems, mental health disabilities, criminology, victimology, trauma psychology, forensic psychology, and biopsychology. Over the past decade, I have contributed to academia by teaching a wide range of Psychology and Social Work University classes, holding certification to teach 24 different courses. Aside from this, I hold 18 different certifications and licenses in the field of Mental Health Counseling.

For the University of Iowa, I conducted extensive research into Juvenile Justice and Crime, identifying cultural and racial disparities in the juvenile justice system. Alongside my clinical practice, I've presented numerous public seminars, presentations, and training sessions on psychological trauma to law enforcement, the U.S. military, and the general public.

Current Practice:

In my current practice, I specialize in individual and family therapy for adolescents and adults, employing a holistic approach to address issues such as Anxiety, Depression, Stress and Adjustment Issues, Relationship Problems, Self-Esteem Issues, Past Trauma Experiences, Generational Trauma, and Psychosis.

My theoretical orientation draws from Existentialism, Choice Theory, and Behavioralism, emphasizing the power of "choice" and its impact on life trajectories. Additionally, I incorporate evolutionary psychology to understand how our primal brains respond to modern challenges, reducing distress and anxiety.

Additionally, I employ humor and believe in its use for healing.

Treatment Modalities:

I utilize various treatment modalities, including strength-based therapy, cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, client-centered therapy, Life Course theory, and crisis counseling. My interactive therapeutic style, influenced by teaching graduate students, fosters positive progress. I incorporate elements of "Gestalt Therapy" to deepen introspection and reflection.

Additional Background:

With over 20 years of governmental experience, I've provided and managed programs for mental health disabilities, Social Security Disability, social awareness, and crisis counseling. Collaborating closely with county prosecutors, elected officials, and military officers, I've dedicated my career to contributing to the growth of humanity and social services.

Lastly, I play a lot of video games and was a “Call of Duty” pro at one time! Not sure how this benefits me, but I’m proud of it!

Experience:

Inpatient Community Mental Health

Various Government Programs focusing on Children & Families

Crisis Response to Violent Crime and Sexual Assaults

Advocacy in Mental Health Response and Planning for 22 County Governments

I was struggling with my anxiety and depression and I wasn’t sure what to do. After searching all over Seattle I finally came across Seattle Wellness Center. Their staff was warm, welcoming and accommodating to my needs. I could not thank them enough for everything they have done.
